Which way to go for upgrade..

CPU & Motherboard Technologia - Ars Technica OpenForum - arstechnica.com
Currently running an i7-7700k, with 16GB of DDR4-2133

Looking to add more cores/ram.

Usage:

Light 1440p gaming (WOWS, WOWP)

Hyper-V (bunch of VM's for lab work for IT courses)

Video editing with Movavi Pro

Stuff I will keep:

950 Pro M2 256gb

870 EVO 1TB

WD Green 3TB

GTX1060 6GB

H115i AIO

I can go with an i7-8700k or Ryzen 2700x (don't really want to spend much more), with similar motherboards, the AMD is about $50CAD more expensive

I can also leave this system as-is, get a cheaper Ryzen, and throw that into another box with the 4x600GB Raptor drives I have and load Hyper-V server on that..

Any leftover parts will go to my son's PC, circle of life and all that.

I haven't had an AMD system since my trusty Athlon X2!

Thoughts?
