SSD works over USB, appears in BIOS over SATA, nothing else
I am repurposing some old parts to build my girlfriend a simple desktop for games like Stardew Valley, nothing serious.
I got Windows 10 Home all set up, Steam installed, turned it off.
Rig sits for three days. At the next power on, it goes straight to Automatic Repair mode. I go into the Advanced troubleshooting, fire up command prompt and diskpart, and find...nothing.
"list disk", "list volume", there's nothing showing up.
I yank the SSD (a 64GB Crucial M4) and hook it up to my desktop via a USB 3.0 -> SATA connector. Everything is present. SMART values all check out in the green.
The BIOS detects the hard drive properly, so I don't think the SATA port is dead.
For reference, the motherboard is an MSI 890FXA-GD70.
