Regret buying a laptop?

Computer Guides Forum - forum.desktopreview.com
So I am 3 weeks into my first gaming pc, a 15R3 with the gtx1060 and am having a blast so far. I have been a console guy my whole life and got the AW specifically for gaming on a new Oculus Rift I got for christmas.

Anyway, I have been thinking if I should have went desktop instead. I really do not plan on traveling with the computer but do move it from one room to another in the house when we have people over that want to try the VR out. Being inexperienced in PC gaming, I was not aware there were smaller desktops like the MSI Aegis 3. And went with a laptop due to our home office being right off the entry and wanted a smaller setup for aesthetic purposes.

I called the Microsoft store (where I bought my 15R3) and they said I have another week to return it and use the credit towards another machine. I paid $1,260 for my AW and there is an Aegis 3 on sale for $1399 with a 1070 card. I know the GPU performance will be better but really like the idea of being able to upgrade in 3-4 years if needed. How long do you think I can get away on the 1060 with the new VR content?

So what do you think? Am I overthinking it and should just shut up and play? or swap my hardware in for a different setup?
