Really need help 7700k or 8700k
Terrible time for my CPU to die....x79 chipset, new cpu is $500 or so and if my board is actually the issue its $400 or so.
I have a 4930k, its a 6 core 3.4ghz-3.9ghz turbo. I've had this for 4 years and now its dying. I never really needed the 6 cores but I cant say its NEVER come in handy. There are some games that have taken advantage of the cores and I think Battlefield1 does as well.
I dont do any video editing/encoding. If the very rare situation I do, I dont care if it takes an hour vs half an hour. I'm no even sure what I would really use the extra cores for aside from gaming.
It just seems like intel is going to abandon the other platforms especially now that I5's have 6 cores. It's the logical decision to go with coffee but I dont think they are going to available until (readily) the first of the year or holiday season and I cant wait that long. I cant be down that long.
I could simply set the multiplier to 45 on the 7700 leave everything including vcore on auto and be done with it, with more performance than my current dead cpu. I can also get the 7700 for $299 at microcenter but the 8700k retails for $379? 2 extra cores and the premium platform for $80 is worth it. Even the 8600k will be just as hard to get for a long while.
I just dont know what to do, I cant be down for months but I also cant buy an inferior product when the 8700k is the better value?
This wouldn't be as difficult if they didn't require different boards....
I'm pulling my hair out. Is anyone in a similar situation?
