Project, scary laptop.
For years I always wanted to build a laptop that would pass as a gov/spy agency laptop, like a FBI/CIA, area 51 or KGB laptop.
Sadly I never seem to have the right laptop for the project. A old ThinkPad, Toughbook or clevo would be preferred, but I only have a old Rog G51vright now. I bought it for 50$ for a relative to play games on when we are on the road. They did not like plying games on a laptop so it 100% mine .
I decided to just go for it and use the Rog for the project. But given its less then Gov/workplace appearance I'll go for something little bit different.
I'll make it a umbrella themed laptop Yeah, its corny, but to hell with it.
OK the laptop has a 2ghz 3mb l2 core2 a gtx260m, 4gb of ram and a BD-rom drive. It looks like crap, chrome mixed with flat black, gloss black and white. It runs hotter then hell and some of the keys on the keyboard do not work. the battery is junk and the 2ghz 3mb l2 core2 is slow slow slow.
So what will be done to it.
Upgrade the cpu, I have a 2.8ghz 6mb l2 cpu I'm dyeing to put in.
Install a SSD and remove the hdd. I have a 128gb drive that will do.
Custom GUI for windows.
Custom login screen for windows.
Replace the keyboard. I bought a Russian keyboard because why not. I'll use a Russian font with the system too.
Cooling mods, not sure what all I'll do, but I need to do something, even with the best of thermal compound it runs hot, like 100c+ This was a know problem with the model.
Mod the back light LEDs so that they're red and not white.
Paint. Needs to be all flat black/red and all Asus brand naming needs removed.
Add umbrella bagging.
Tonight I'll drop in the 2.8ghz core2 and install windows on the ssd. To keep with the scary theme I'll being using vista OK its what shipped with the laptop and I don't have a copy of 7, not that I like/dislike vista. Its just what I have. Then for the custom GUI and login screen.
I made custom login screens before at work. I'll make a post detailing how its done.
Stay tuned for photos and more.
