Thin and light notebook for...

General Questions

1) What is your budget?

$ 2000

2) What size notebook would you prefer?

Preferrably 14.

3) Where will you buying this notebook? You can select the flag of your country as an indicator.


4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?

No preferences

5) Would you consider laptops that are refurbished/redistributed?


6) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?

Presentation, CPU intensive engineering softwares, AAA gaming, Online gaming, photo editing in Lightroom

7) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both?

It will always be in my bag with me. So lots of traveling around

8) Will you be playing games on your notebook? If so, please state which games or types of games?

Witcher 3, Mass effect andromeda, tomb raider etc

9) How many hours of battery life do you need?

Preferably more than 5 hours

10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK?

Online is fine

11) What OS do you prefer? Windows (Windows 7 / 8), Mac OS, Linux, Chrome OS, etc.


Screen Specifics

12) From the choices below, what screen resolution(s) would you prefer?

At least 1080p

Matte preferable. Can be glossy.

Build Quality and Design

14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?

Yes. It will be used professionally as well at internship/work

15) When are you buying this laptop?


16) How long do you want this laptop to last?

3-4 years. Maybe more

Notebook Components

17) How much hard drive space do you need? Do you want a SSD drive?

SSD definitely. 512 preferred since I keep an external hdd for photos etc.

18) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD Burner, Blu-ray Reader or Blu-Ray Burner?


What I've looked at:

Razer blade 2017:

Fits all of the above and with a 10% student discount at Microsoft store I can afford it. BUT I know how much people here hate Razer with passion and I know the reasons behind it. The only reason I'm considering it is the fact that the new one seems to have fixed a lot of the issues.

Dell XPS 9560:

Fits all the specs except the screen size but the bezel makes up for it. The gtx1050 is really turning me off though.


Specs are perfect, thin and light. I haven't seen it in person so I can't say too much about how professional it looks.
