iTunes movies unwatchable, i.e. dedicated video ram on Windows 10

Audio/Visual Club - Ars Technica OpenForum -
Hi Everyone,

I've been having problems with playing movies on this laptop, where all the movies I've bought on iTunes are super choppy, pixelated and laggy to the point of being unwatchable. Sound and video will not be in sync for 90% of the movie and the video stutters and stops then fast forwards. For DVDs played on VLC I had been having similar problems, but I now use Media Player Classic and am now able to watch most DVDs fine, although they often take a long time to load. If I'm streaming video or watching videos in Youtube, I can generally watch videos without major problems, even if I'm also using Photoshop and Lightroom at the same time.

I am running a Samsung np510r5e laptop with the following specs:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3537U CPU @ 2.00GHz 2.50GHz

Installed RAM: 8.00GB (7.89GB usable)

System type: 64-bit, x64-based processor

Display adapters: AMD Radeon HD 8750M, Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000, MCT USB 3.0 External Graphics Device (so I can run my laptop and 2 monitors simultaneously)

Windows 10 Home edition, version 1709, OS Build 16299.125

Total Graphics Memory: 1792MB

Dedicated Video Memory: 32MB

System Video Memory: 0MB

Shared System Memory: 1760MB

Disk drives: Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500 GB, plus a couple 1 or 2TB external drives

...not sure what else would be useful to know.

Things I have tried so far:

* Restarting my computer and only running iTunes

* Shutting down any or all unnecessary processes/applications except iTunes

* I typically use the onboard monitor and 2 external monitors for photo editing, but I've tried rebooting and only opening iTunes and only using the laptop monitor

* All my drivers are up to date

* I have changed or tested every option in the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel (refresh rate, 3D settings balanced for performance/quality, power settings adjusted for performance/battery); and tried similar with AMD Catalyst Control Center

* I have run the Hardware and Device troubleshooter

* I've updated drivers from the manufacturer's website

* I've updated drivers from the Samsung website

* I've installed drivers in compatibility mode and checked for compatibility issues

* I've tried using older versions of iTunes (back to version 10. something or other)

* I've tried using different cables for my monitor

* I disabled iTunes syncing playback across devices

* In iTunes, I've changed: video playback quality, max resolution, play audio using, sample rate for audio, bits per sample, playing SD vs HD

* In Realtek HD Audio Manager, I checked to make sure the default format settings matched those in iTunes, and I've tried the full range from CD to Studio quality

* I downloaded and installed the K-Lite Codec Pack Mega 13.3.0 for Windows

* I checked BIOS settings to see if there was something I could change (based on a tutorial I found), but it seems that because I am using a laptop that I may not be able to change any setting or update my BIOS

* Under system properties, performance options, advanced, virtual memory, I unchecked "automatically manage..." and set the paging file size to 4000-6000MB (n.b.: there is 21687MB available, and 1905MB recommended

* I tried something in regedit involving adding a new entry "DedicatedSegmentSize" under hkeylocalmachine\software\intel\gmm (as described here:
