What PC VR headsets are currently available or coming soon?

So, I really like 3D stuff (had a 3D monitor and a 3D TV). I love the idea of 3D games and gaming. I've got one of those cheap plastic headsets that hold your phone, and that works OK, but not really what I'm looking for.
I have a very nice gaming PC: 4K monitor, logitech's top gaming mouse/keyboard, and a GTX-1080. My idea of VR gaming isn't playing the Wii while wearing a headset. I want to be sitting at my PC and interacting via a controller or mouse and keyboard. So I saw Google's announcement, and agree with what Lee (ars staff) said in the comments, none of the standalone or cell phone VR are going to be as good as the one's be driven off a GTX-1080 video card. So, what PC headsets are on the market or coming soon? I only know of two(HTC Vive and Oculus Rift), and there have been a ton of comparisons already. So I'm looking for a second generation headset, Steam comparability, that is like the Vive, but better. Also, any keywords to search for, since VR Headset gets you everything from $6 to $800. What do they call a VR headset that attaches to your PC? Read responses in arstechnica.com |
