HDDs form home office Ubuntu-based NAS - HGST Deskstar NAS V2?
never-ending debate, I guess, but couldn't find relevant thread for HGST Deskstar NAS "V2".
I am running a home office server for my family needs, sharing its filesystem via samba to home LAN and all the zoo of PCs, laptops, tablets, smartphones, DLNA media devices and so on. It does not need to be VERY fast, but I want to sleep peacefully, without stress of loosing old photos of my kids or source code to some software that I wrote. Therefore Ubuntu server is configured to do software RAID0 between two 2TB Seagate HD203WI drives and I would like to replace those drives since they are >6 years old now (running 24/7 since install).
I am considering HGST 0S03940 - DESKSTAR IDK 5TB NAS V2, but couldn't find what the "V2" stands for.
Any idea what did they change in the version 2? Is it better than the previous release?
I guess that my dilemma is to choose between:
DESCRIPTION | CACHE | DRIVE MODEL | KIT MODEL | SKU | UPC
HGST 3.5 5TB 7200RPM Deskstar NAS v2 EMEA | 128MB | HDN726050ALE614 | H3IKNASN500012872SE | 0S03940 | 705487200201
HGST 3.5 5TB 7200RPM Deskstar NAS PA | 128MB | HDN726050ALE610 | H3IKNAS500012872SN | 0S03835 | 705487196764
Or perhaps you would recommend something else instead of HGST Deskstar NAS drives?
All comments welcome!
