Freezes with FSX and BF2
Not sure where to put this thread.
Parts list as follows:
GIGABYTE AORUS GA-Z270X-Gaming K7
Ballistix Tactical 4GB Model BLT4G4D26AFTA
Antec Gamer 520, about 8 years old.
GTX 560 TI
I know I should have at least 16GB of RAM and a new vid card, but money is tight right now. I just play old games anyway.
Problem: Every once in a great while while playing FSX or BF2 with the AIX mod my computer will just freeze. I press the reset button on the computer and nothing happens forcing me to press and hold the power button to rest the computer.
In FSX I've noticed some graphic oddities like beams of laser light coming from the approach lights of the runway or the airport beacon. Sometimes I'll see a black square in place of a light and then it goes back to normal within a second. I've seen the grass at my updated Denver airport as white and sometimes the cloud cover above me flickers. In BF2 I don't see any visual oddities, but it has frozen.
I have updated the GPU driver to the latest today. I had the Intel Rapid Storage driver installed, but I don't think I needed it and I uninstalled it and there are no exclamation marks in device manager. I only installed the Intel Rapid Storage driver because when I ran a HDD speed test my platter was very slow. Now that I uninstalled the driver, HD Tune reports my platter's speed to be around 80 MB/s and my SSD is at over 300 MB/s. Shouldn't the platter be faster? The platter is fairly new. I believe my PSU voltages are normal when I glanced at it in BIOS under health. I believe the BIOS is F4. I did update it to the latest and I built the computer on May 6th, but the F6 BIOS which I could have sworn I installed is dated May 9th. I'll have to double check latter.
When these freezes happened (total of three now) I would be in FSX and just landed taxing to parking when all of a sudden I would hear a pop from the speakers and the whole computer would be frozen. It's happened twice now in FSX and once in BF2. Each time in FSX I was taxing after landing. I originally thought it was my pedals or yoke since I couldn't use the restart button on the computer I was thinking hardware. I also thought perhaps it was the weather engine I was using. But since this freeze up has now happened in BF2 I can pretty much rule those out. I'm now thinking GPU or PSU. Why wouldn't I be able to use the reset button on my computer? I know it works. I've checked the error log and there's nothing and bluescreen view shows nothing which makes since because this isn't a BSOD.
Anybody have similar experiences with this motherboard or GPU where you couldn't use the reset button? Why am I getting freeze ups?
Any and all help would be great. Thanks. '); }
