WHEN should I buy a gaming laptop?
I'm looking to buy a gaming laptop sometime in the next year or so. Without getting into detail there's a bit of leeway in the exact time when I'll get one; it could be as early as now or I could wait until sometime next year. I'm trying to figure out what the value is of waiting.
Specifically I'd like to get something on the mid to lower high end; for example the Kaby Lake MSI GS63VR Stealth Pro is what I'd get if I were buying today. But as someone who doesn't regularly keep up with the next computing technologies coming down the pike, I don't know what upgrades might be in the offing in the interim- for example, Pascal was obviously a huge upgrade over Maxwell and I would have regretted it had I bought a gaming laptop say a year ago.
So obviously it's impossible to say but is there any discussion about what the performance of say Cannonlake is potentially shaping up to be vs. Kaby Lake? Or alternatively what GPU architecture performance might look like a year from now with potential Pascal Ti cards or whatever comes after Pascal? For example, waiting for Pascal upgrades from Maxwell would have definitely been worth waiting for a year but waiting for a year for Kaby Lake vs. Skylake would not have been. Obviously it's always going to be better if you wait in perpetuity but I'm just trying to get a sense of what big upgrades are (publically) known to be "out there" over the next 12-18 months.
