Adding Graphics card to an everyday computer

I wanted to buy a Gaming computer. My budget is about $600 with tax. I know I will not get awesome performance. But I had an idea, what if I bought an everyday computer (about $399) then adding a Radeon HD 7770. Would this work? Adding a good graphics card to an everyday computer?
Related messages I have a gigabyte board with the Intel h170 (hd530)chipset (onboard graphics). I also have an old GeForce 7600GT card laying around. Can anyone tell me which graphics is better? This not for gaming, just everyday surfing the web, YouTube , etc.
Not planning on doing it for a while, but I am getting a computer with a gtx 780 ti which will last me a while, when it comes to adding another one will I have to use another 780 or can i use a different card? Maybe an 800 series or even 900?
