6600k @ 1.28v with Noctua NH-12S ... idle temp 50C but only 70C under load?
Hi all, first time poster here.
I recently gave my 6600k a mild OC (4.3 GHz @ 1.28v peak VCore). Everything is stable and running nicely, and temps only hit 70C under synthetic load (x264 stress test or RealBench). However, I noticed in HWInfo that my CPU Package temp is only falling back to 48-50C when the machine has been idling for ages. It also hits 48-50 if I boot from cold in the morning and do nothing with it.
Today I removed the cooler, cleaned it thoroughly and reseated with new NT-H1 compound. I'm 100% sure it's seated properly and screwed down nice and snug.
The load/stress temps are fine but I'm really surprised that idle is close to 50C with such a beefy cooler. Ambient temps are only 20C and the other temp measurements (case etc.) are in the low 20s up to maybe 30C. My fan profile is not super aggressive but it is not 'silent mode' or anything. I have 2x 140mm front intakes and 2x 120mm rear/top exhausts, plus the 120mm on the Noctua cooler.
Any ideas why my idle is so high? Oh, last piece of info: my 6600k is on adaptive voltage and drops to 0.8v when not under load, so it's not an issue with constant voltage being forced through.
