Enable VT-d when BIOS only enables VT-x?

BIOS Mods - forums.mydigitallife.info
Sorry if this is the wrong forum to post this in, I wasn't sure of the best one but I do believe that IF there is a solution, it is going to be a BIOS mod more than anything else. Please move if needed, but don;t hit me!!!

I want to create a VM using VMware (latest free version) but I need PCI passthrough. I have an older PC (Dell Optiplex 760) with the latest BIOS ever released for it (A16).

Now, my CPU (Intel E8400) and Chipset (Q45/43) support both VT-x and VT-d (VT for Direct I/O) virtualization according to Intel

Code:

However, CPU-Z only shows VT-x, so it is possible that my mobo (0M858N) doesn't support VT-d. However I have no idea for sure. All I know is that with virtualization enabled or disabled in BIOS, CPU-Z only ever shows VT-x, never VT-d.

I assume that VT-d is not working on my system because VMware does not give me the option to passthrough any PCI devices (which requires VT-d support).

The A16 BIOS does give me the option to specifically enable VT-d or VT-x, it's just a generic "enable virtualization" option.

Is there a mod/workaround for situations like this so that I can utilize the VT-d support of my CPU and chipset, or am I just sh|t out of luck?
