1440p or 120hz 1080p for Gaming

Monitors and Displays - www.overclock.net
What would provide a better gaming experience? Also, how big is the jump from a 1080p 60hz to either a 1440p or 120hz monitor?

Obviously the 1440p is the best, but when you look at the hardware required to run it efficiently, is it worth it compared to a 120hz monitor? I am assuming it would be much harder to keep up with games at 1440p, but I could be wrong. What are your opinions?
