Onboard Vs External Sound Cards + Help With Sound Card Replacement.

Sound Cards and Computer Audio - www.overclock.net
Hello it has been a long long time since i bought a sound card for pc and many things have changed since the last time i was in the market for one.

I have a ASUS XONAR D2X:

Or more precisely i should say i had one as my sound card finally died on me and now i need something to replace it. I heard and read a lot of how onboard sound cards have gotten a lot better since the last time i used a onboard ( when i used creative audigy 2 zs cards ), but really how much better has it gotten? is it really that much of a difference from a dedicated sound card?

1)what is the best sound card for someone who uses headphones more than speakers? i wish for something with headphone amps in it.

I have:

Audio Technica ATH-AD700X (FPS Winner)

any information is greatly appreciated.

Is there anything i can upgrade from asus xonar d2x? there is new asus sound cards out there but not sure if they are better. '); }
