9750 RAID5 to h700 RAID6 - move array and expand or build new array and copy?

Servers - www.overclock.net
Hey all,

I recently purchased a H700 to replace my 9750-4i. I currently have 3x2TB installed on the 9750-4i, and picked up 5x2TB to expand the array ($35 total for slightly used 5k3000s ). Obviously the 4i can't do this without an expander, and I'm on mitx, so I went ahead and bought a new card that could.

What I'd like to do is setup a 6 drive RAID6 on the new controller (my case only supports six drives and I'd like to keep some spares around just in case).

However, the RAID5 was originally was expanded from a RAID0, and so things like Rapid Recovery are not enabled on my array.

So, my question for you is, does it make more sense to move the array to the new controller and expand from there, or to build a new array (with Rapid Recovery) with the unused disks and then transfer the data from the old array?

Or, maybe, other?

P.S. The system in question is Peggy in my sig, and the array is all HFS+ (). I'm not excited about that, but unless I can move to ZFS it seems necessary in a Mac environment (my partners business). I know this limits more creative alternatives, so if anyone has any clever ideas... '); }
