3pin fans in 4pin gpu header?

Graphics Cards - General - www.overclock.net
in a nutshell ive replaced the fans on my gtx 770 4gb phantom for 2 other regular 80mm fans instead.....and it runs about 20 degrees cooler now

ive put two fans on a splitter then into a gpu fan converter cable..... and they spin up fine....keep it coool and quiet.

however they dont seem to follow any kind of fan curve as adjusting them on msi afterburner does nothing.

they appear to run at about 50% speed all the time regardless.

one at a time minus the fan splitter does the same thing.

the original fans were 0.35A and the new ones are 0.12A so they actually use less power.

do i need to find/fit 4 pin fans instead of these 3 pin fans for the fan curve to work properly.?

thanks in advance
