A skeptic asks about musical 'breaking in'
I often hear about how someone had to 'break in' such and such speakers or such and such headphones for umpteen hours before they sounded right. Being the skeptic that I am, I started wondering whether there was any quantitative or experimental data to back these claims up. I have my doubts, but I would like to know if there is anything to back it up.
For instance, does a 'broken in' speaker measure differently than a new one? Can a blind A/B experiment tell the difference between a 'broken in' one and one that's not?
Does a new amp need to be broken in? Do transistors need exercise before sounding their best??
What do you think?
