Did Google break the playback of copyrighted Youtube video LINKS in local players?

Audio/Visual Club - Ars Technica OpenForum - arstechnica.com
I mean in the last month or two. And i only mean LINKS i do not care about downloading the actual video.

One could copy a link such as [unique_11_character_adress] in a local player such as VLC (or whatever other one that supports it) and it would play just fine. Still works, except, as per my tests, if the video has some copyrighted music in it. Then it will not play it, at all. And i DO NOT MEAN JUST Vevo videos. I mean Vevo videos, music videos on the music artist's official channel, videos made by a fan (or alleged copyright infringer, depending on your views or the local copyright law) that have been marked as containing copyrighted works. None of these LINKS can be played on a local video player, just on the website.

Does anyone know when this changed? Or is there some more info on it?

Some people might come here and suggest ways to download the video or whatnot. I know how to do that if i ever want/need to. I do not care about such suggestions on this thread.
