HDR Problem

Home Theater Computers - www.avsforum.com
My setup:

Samsung 65HU8550

SEK-3500U (for HDR)

Denon x3300

Windows 10

i3-6100

8gb ram

Nvidia GT 1030

All Certified 18gps Cables

Routing:

HTPC (GT 1030) --> Denon AVR (AUX2 Port) --> SEK (Port 4) --> Samsung TV

My Problem:

I just purchased the SEK to upgrade the TV to add HDR. All apps work great and stream in HDR. The HTPC works when the Samsung has UHD color turned off. (using Input 4 on the SEK) There is no toggle in the display settings in Windows to turn on or off HDR enhanced. When I enable the UHD color, the TV reboots and the screen comes up black.

How I have tried to fix it:

- To see if the AVR was the problem, I plugged the HTPC directly into the SEK input 4 with UHD color turned on. This works but does not allow for bitstreaming of audio so not a fix for me.

- This afternoon, after hours of pulling my hair out, I power cycled in such a way (should have written down all the different ways) that everything worked as connected the way I had it originally set up. HDR enhanced shows up in Display properties and MPC-BE/Madvr play HDR10 with bitstreamed audio albeit the TV show as having an HDR symbol. Maybe there was backend SW converting the HDR to SDR... I then power cycled to make sure it was fixed and the black screen shows up again.

- Power Cycles:

1. Turn everything off. Turn on only Samsung and cycle UHD Color. Turn off TV. Turn on TV -> AVR -> HTPC

2. Turn everything off. Turn on only Samsung and cycle UHD Color. Turn off TV. Turn on AVR -> TV -> HTPC

3. Turn everything off. Turn on only Samsung and cycle UHD Color. Turn off TV. Turn on TV -> HTPC -> AVR

4. Turn everything off. Turn on only Samsung and cycle UHD Color. Turn off TV. Turn on HTPC -> AVR -> TV

5. Turn everything off. Turn on only Samsung and cycle UHD Color. Turn off TV. Turn on HTPC -> TV -> AVR

I feel like it is some kind of hand shake problem (AVR??) that I can't get my head around. It seems like it hinges on when the UHD Color on the Samsung is turned on, then powered cycled, then the system power cycles. I could be completely wrong though!

Can anyone help me get HDR to work?

Thanks for your time!
