Need to wipe data from internal HDD for reuse, Windows 7

Storage Forum - www.tomshardware.co.uk
Hi. I need to wipe clean my internal 1TB hard drive so that i can reuse it again. I'm talking about completely wiping though and not to where there are still "invisible" files that my OS cannot read. Im just confused on a couple things though. First, Will a simple formatting(quick format) get what i need done or do I need to use some kind of software to wipe clean my HDD(I'm using Windows 7 Premium)? Secondly, How do I check to see if my HDD has more than 1 partition on it? Thanks for any help. btw I don't have W7 on this hard drive.
