KABY LAKE REFRESH IS DESTROYING APPLE
APPLE HAS A DISASTER ON ITS HANDS
Apples rather lackadaisical habit of updating models is about to backfire. The new 8th generation chips developed by Intel are a major broadside against Apple, particularly in the arena of laptops.
Though the lower power 8th generation mobile chips, are actually just a refresh of Kaby Lake, the doubling of cores and threads has so enhanced performance that some of Apple’s products look embarrassingly antiquated.
Consider just these two items:

The 13" DELL INSPIRON
1) Has a quad-core i7-8550u 4C/8T
2) 1.8 GHz - 4.0 GHz
3) 1920 x 1080 touch screen
4) 512 NVMe SSD
5) 16 GB DD4 RAM - 2400 MHz
6) $1099.99 (during sale)
Vs MacBook Air
1) Has a dual-core i5-5350u 2C/4T
2) 1.8 GHz - 2.9 GHz
3) 1440 x 900
4) 256 SSD
5) 8GB 1600MHz LPDDR3
6) $1199.99 (during sale)
This is pathetic. Apple is selling an anemic laptop with a 5th generation Broadwell CPU for more money than a quad core DELL, with faster RAM, twice the RAM, twice the cores, twice the storage, and a better screen, touchscreen.
The linked article above shows a similar disaster when an HP Spectre is compared against a MacBook Pro. The HP is comparably powered, but comes in $700 less.
The Kaby Lake refresh has all but obsoleted the entire Apple line of Laptops, except the high end MacBook Pros.
HP and Dell are already using the new CPUs. What about Apple?
